We welcome Ofir Shoshanim to the Okumura group!

Ofir received his PhD in physical chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for his work on ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy, and has worked as a senior researcher in spectral remote sensing in the Environmental Physics Department at the Israel Institute for Biological Research. Here he will continue to work on projects related to remote sensing as well as investigating aerosol chemistry.

Katerina receives John Stauffer charitable trust SURF!

The newest member of the Okumura team, Caltech undergraduate in Chemistry Katerina Gorou, was awarded the John Stauffer Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). Katerina's proposal centered around hydrogen escape from the Martian atmosphere, and suggested both laboratory and modeling approaches to help explain current deuterium and hydrogen concentrations.

The group says goodbye to visiting researcher Robin Miri

Over the summer, Robin worked with Doug and Tzu Ling on constructing the mid-IR ringdown cavity and vacuum system for the methane kinetic isotope effect project. After construction, they investigated the impact of isotope (deuterium and carbon-13) substitution on the rate of hydrogen abstraction by O1D and chlorine radical. He is now continuing his master's work in France and we will miss him very much!
